Last Friday the Town of Westford auctioned off 16 pieces of property taken because of non-payment of real estate taxes. A property Tax Possession auction in the Merrimack Valley is a rare event. Actually, it was the first for Westford. The auction took place in the police station's conference room . Register of Deeds, Dick Howe, Jr and I attended the auction and found it a fascinating study in real estate. The properties on the block varied in size from 1/10th acre to 3.2 acres and some sold for as much as $76,000. Strategic Auction Alliance of Braintree acted as the auctioneer on behalf of the town. I put this brief slide-show together from photos and audio I took with my iPhone.
